gEneSys Workshop: Co-creating Sustainable Pathways for a Gender-Just Energy Transition

The Horizon Europe project gEneSys (gEnder Equality for a just energy System) held a co-creation workshop in Brussels to explore how to effectively integrate gender perspectives into energy transition policies and programmes.

The event, hosted at the ENEA Liaison Office in Brussels, brought together Institutional representatives, Energy stakeholders, NGOs, Universities, Research centres, and private sector actors. The aim was to collectively reflect on inclusive and fair pathways towards a sustainable energy future.

Workshop Objectives:

  • Build a shared understanding of the role of gender equality in energy transition processes
  • Discuss how to mainstream gender across EU energy policy implementation
  • Co-create future scenarios using a backcasting methodology, centred on the aspirations and realities of diverse communities

The workshop was based on research findings developed by the gEneSys consortium in both Europe and Africa. Participants engaged in interactive sessions including storytelling exercises, collaborative scenario-building, and direct exchanges with community practitioners and policymakers.

“Integrating gender into the energy transition is a strategic and urgent priority. ENEA, through the TERIN Department, is proud to contribute to the gEneSys project by promoting participatory and multidisciplinary approaches with real-world impact.”
